    Hi everybody,

I want to know if there is an export format in FinalCut that is easily importable in Avid (DS v8 + Qt 7.1 or MC 3.5) and lossless. I don’t want to buy plugins like AutomatickDuck :S

I tried with uncompressed 10bits 422 BlackMagic but it doesn’t work on the Avid side (BlackMagic’s codecs are installed on the DS).

Should I try with standard uncompressed 10bits 422 ? IMX ? Is it hopeless ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

Why not install the Avid codecs on the FCP side, then export as Avid Uncompressed or DNxHD?

Thank you for your answer. In fact, the problem is that I can’t access the “FCP side” because it belongs to a customer.

But I’m curious : If I use Avid codec (such as DNx), which wrapper should I use ? *.mov ?

    Thank you !

Yes, .mov. You’ll find the animation codec is generic and will work with anything. You won’t have fast import on the avid side unless using an Avid codec. I recomend the uncompressed meridien codec.

[Xavier Gruselle] “the problem is that I can’t access the “FCP side” because it belongs to a customer.”

I don’t understand. If you can’t access the FCP side, then how are you accessing the clips? Anyway, like Grinner said, the Animation codec is the most compatible format. The files can get huge, but it works – and that’s what you are looking for. Animation codec works for SD and HD.

Are you exporting a finished timeline or individual clips? Depending on what the original clips are, the Avid may be able to import without any conversion. If you are exporting a finished timeline and want it easily importable, then an Animation QT is your choice.

    Hello,

Thank you for your answer. In fact, the FCP side belongs to a customer so it’s difficult to ask him to install the Avid codecs :S

I know the Animation codec is lossless but the problem is that it works in RGB mode and the native video is in YCrCb so I’m afraid changing the color format will damage the quality.
I tried with uncompressed 10bits 422 standard (not BlackMagic), it worked with my FCP but not with the customer one.

So, I don’t know… Maybe transcoding in “uncompressed standard” with third party softwares… Any other lossless solution ?
