From FCP to mobile phone format
Posted by Greg Ball on October 13, 2011 at 7:06 pmI’m working for a client that would like us the create a video that can be triggered by a QR code and play on Mobile devices. I imagine that would be a 3GPP formatted video. Has anybody done this? How can we convert this from QuickTime to 3GPP? Or is there a better way?
Thanks.

October 13, 2011 at 7:31 pmYou can use Quicktime Pro, Compressor, Sorenson Squeeze, or Telestream Episode to encode to 3gp. Or you can use a h.264 mp4 as your file – playable on computers, tablets, and mobile devices.

October 13, 2011 at 7:32 pmCompressor has presets for a bunch of mobile formats. However, make sure you know all the devices your clients need to play. That will affect your choice of codec to use. You may need to supply clips in various formats. The code would determine what type of device is connected and then play the correct stream.

October 13, 2011 at 7:37 pmThanks for the quick responses. The types of mobile devices are unlimited, as this would be for consumers to use in a retail environment. But at least you got me going in the right direction.

October 13, 2011 at 7:48 pmI suggest you ask your client to spec the devices they want – or at least the codecs. Then you’re not left hanging if you don’t supply everything they want or need. The choice should be theirs. You shouldn’t have to guess.
