Is there a way to save frequently used “groups of clips” within Vegas7 (or Vegas8)? I am referring to grouped combinations like a banner with text and logo, that is used over and over in a project.

I realize that “Project Media” contains the clips in use, but it does not seem to contain the “grouped” versions of clips. So, I have to reassemble the group, each time.

My workaround has been to open another window of Vegas and save the clip there. Then I just copy the group from one Vegas to the other Vegas.

But, it seems like there must be an internal way to save these frequently used groups within one open Vegas. Am I missing something in the Project Media capability?

You might try saving each group as a veg. file and then just import or drag and drop the veg file as needed into the current project you are working on.

Thanks, Mike. Yes, but that is sort of the same as having the extra open Vegas window. When you edit an imported “veg” file, it will open another Vegas window.

But, it certainly works. Just wish there was a capability in the Project Media to same these groups, internally, within one open Vegas window.

That’s what the “Media Manager” is for!

In Vegas 8, it’s a separate download and install. In Vegas 7, it installed automatically.

I’ll learn how to use it. Thanks, Ed.

I had a similar situation where I had a group of two clips that I reuse across projects. I simply selected the two clips with the selection tool and rendered the selection as an avi. I keep the avi in a global subdirectory outside any projects.

Bear in mind I use Vegas Movie Studio, which meets my needs for the time being. In Vegas Pro I suppose the answer would be to create a .veg file as it is possible to nest .vegs, a capability I do not believe is supported in Movie Studio. Likewise, the Media Manager would be more appropriate than my simplistic external directory.
