    hi all

So I got a kernel panic after plugging in my iPhone. CPU was working fine (even with the iPhone) up to this point. Thought nothing of it and rebooted. Now every reboot is a test of patience. Sometimes it stays on the black screen and that’s it. Other times it gets to the gray apple logo and freezes. Occasionally it actually boots. There is no pattern nor any consistency.

I have booted off cd and mounted the CPU as a target drive – ran first aid – repaired permissions – ran hardware check – reset PMU – no problems found but booting still is an issue.

Decided to backup important files (not relying in Time Machine) and reinstall Leopard.

    Now the installer freezes. Ugh.

Even formatted the drive when I had it mounted as a target drive. Since it is now a formatted drive I am trying to do fresh install. (erase and install)

    Any ideas?

I’m guessing hardware failure but want some opinions.

    G5 dual 1.8 (early 2005)
    2.5 GB RAM
    Latest OSX and firmware

    Thanks in advance.
    Bob
