    Greetings all,

Creating a complex comp and heres what I need.

Comp is 1:00 minute in length. I’m using a video clip in a layer that needs to be that length. Catch is, the video clip is only :09 seconds in actual length. The clips is only used AS video from :10 seconds -:20 seconds in the actual comp. It can be a still for the first 10 seconds and a still for the last 40 seconds.

My question, can a create a “still” from the first and last frames of the video clip, then extend those stills to the front and back of the clip?

Of simply, how do I create a still from from a video clip in AE?

    Thanks for considering!

    Hi,

    > put the time slider where you want to freeze the frame
    > select layer
    > right click, choose time
    > choose freeze frame

    cheers

You could save the frames you need as stills, import the stills into AE and place them in your comp. I don’t have AE open right now so I may be a little off, but it’s something like “save frame as Photoshop layers” in the Comp menu.

    or

You could enable time remapping for the layer, create keyframes where you want the video to start and stop playing, copy the start keyframe to the beginning of the layer, and copy the stop keyframe to the end of the layer.

Or, you could do it the easy way. ;~)

Sorry … just saw Stefan’s post after I sent mine … I guess I still do some things the old school way since I don’t always take the time to investigate new AE features and the old ways still work.

    Thanks much!

My challenge is when I do as you suggest, my whole original clip turns into a freeze frame. I want the first and last frames of the clip to freeze that I can extend to beginning and end of the comp while keeping the whole original video clip at it’s native speed.

Is the whole clip supposed to freeze?

    Thanks all,

I watched the tutorial regarding Time Mapping and this was the answer to my problem!

Cheers and thanks all for your consideration and offerings!
