    Hello,

I’m trying to make a freeze frame in FCP and it simply isnt working. I’ve tried restarting and that didnt fix it. All I’m doing is putting the playhead over the frame I want, clicking Make Freeze Frame, and it should show up in the Viewer, right?

When do I that^^ all that appears is ten seconds of black, not the desired frame.

I haven’t tried it, but I know trashing the preferences can sometimes help with issues like this.

To go around this I also set my In/Out points to just that frame and exported a still image, but it didnt produce the desired result. Plus the MFF function should work!

    Thank you for your help!

Ok Ive been messing with this more and have made some discoveries, no solution though.

The freeze frame works fine at other points on the timeline. I’ll move the playhead over another clip/different place and hit shift-N and it works fine. Its only when its over this one specific graphic(QT exported from a motion graphic) that there is a problem.

Could it be related to the QT I’m using? I’ve tried other similar QT graphics in the program and it work fine.

    Ok, I figured it out!!

It wasn’t letting me freeze fram b/c the Quicktime I was trying to pull a frame from was reversed. I hit command-J, unchecked reverse, and WaLA! It worked.

It you’re reading this, just unreverse the clip, shift-N to get the frame, then re-reverse it and it should be good to go from there.

I have stumbled on this problem recently, it’s because we’re trying to take a freeze of a clip that have had it’s ‘dimensions’ altered. God knows why it can’t just freeze exactly what’s on the canvas rather than sourcing from the original clip?

Anyway, with this in mind here’s my fix. place pay head on frame you want on the time line. Select match frame to bring the source clip up in viewer. Take freeze frame from there instead.
