  • freeze frame as playback on sequence and clipboard

So i’ve digitized some DV clips, so far at just 15:1 draft ratio, but when i try to play them, both in the sequence (on the composer window) or in a clip monitor, it plays as a freeze frame, meaning that the slider is moving, and the sound is playing as well, but the video isn’t moving. however, when i drag the slider to and fro, the video does move, which means the video is there. It just won’t play as anything other than a freeze frame.

I’m told that this is an external playback setting and I just need to switch playback from external device to monitor, but I can’t find this button.

I’m working on with the Avid Xpress Pro on a PC, just software.

    thanks,

    Ryan

What kind of PC, how much RAM, what video card are you using, what driver do you have installed for that video card, what version of Avid Xpress Pro are you using, etc…We need more of your system specs. Sounds like a video card driver issue.

    Here are my specs:

    Intel(R)Pentium(R)5
    Dual Core
    CPU 2.66 GHz
    1.00G RAM
    Intel(R)82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family)Serial ATA Storage Controller -27C0

    Running Windows XP Professional
    Radeon X1600 Series video card

    Avid Express 5.2.4

    What’s the verdict?

It’s likely a driver issue–Avid only certifies nVidia cards, so it’s kind of up in the air whether your video card will work. Doesn’t mean that it won’t, but it might take some trial and error before it will, if it will…

I did a search on the Avid forums for your card–doesn’t look like anyone got it working. Some suggestions included updating to the latest drivers, running the card in single monitor mode (if you’re trying to run it across 2 screens try it just on one), and messing around with the overlay settings. Sorry I don’t have better news–if I hear anything, though, I’ll be sure to tell you.

    Mike,

Thanks for the check. It was the video card after all, and I got myself a nVidia card, GeForce 7900 and now it works great, except initially, I kept running into a “Access Violation” error but now that’s gone too after a driver update.

    thanks,

    Ryan
