    Hello,

I’m having a problem with the masking pen in Adobe After Effects CS4. For one thing, I hate how it’s not freehand (like how Photoshop used to be when outlining an object). Is there ANY where to make it so it outlines exactly how I want instead of just doing straight line points along the object? Secondly, when I’m finished masking and look at the prerview screen, sometimes I need to touch-up. When I go to do this, this weird curved line appears and I have no idea how to use it! Is this that bezier tool I’ve heard of? Cause it’s absolutely crazy!! I hate it! Please help!

    Thanks!

    Rebecca

This is it. It can be pretty useful once you get the hang of it.
There is not a freehand mode to my knowledge.

Here is a good tutorial on the Pen tool that will help-

“I hate it!” – Rebecca Maguire

Don’t be a hater. Learn how to use the tool, it’s worth the effort. Just about every application used for post production and graphics implements some form of a bezier tool. This includes all the graphics, 3d programs and most of the editing apps. If you intend on improving your skill set then understanding bezier curves is a compulsory exercise.
