    Dear After Effects Community,

I was trying to find the ups and downs of creating Background Presets, and I came up with a few decent ones. I picked

the Fractal Noise Effect as a base so that I would have some type of direction to go in…The conclusion I came up with

is that Fractal Noise is a very powerful Background generator.

If you would like to use them, just go to http://www.theanvel.com and click on free AE 6.5 background presets.

As usual they are royalty free, so use them however you like.

    Thanks

[Dave LaRonde] “Brian Maffitt of Total Training once made the comment that he didn’t know why anybody would go out and buy backgrounds any more… and he was talking about AE 5.0.”

Well, I wouldn’t concur with this assesment. Unless you happen to have an excessive footage library or, like me, access to 3D programs, there are many reasons for buying backgrounds or parts of them. The same goes if you use AE standard tools only – after quite a short while all your BGs tend to look rather samey, no matter how much you tweak it. Along those lines Fractal Noise isn’t the greatest and best tool for this. One of the main reasons why people use instant backdrops is the lack of time for creating (and rendering) custom ones. Granted, there’s always the danger of overusing certain themes, but as long as the stuff is of such good quality like e.g. some from DigitalJuice there is no good argument against using them even if you are proficient enough in AE and could build them yourself.

Came just in time. I’m new to making backgrounds but’ll need some soon, and now I can pick these apart, Oh boy.

Thanks for sharing, Dean. I’ve always found backtracking the work of people who are more proficient with AE than I the best way to improve my AE skills, as well as great inspiration for new ideas to experiment with.
