I’m editing in FCP 4.5 on a 720p HD sequence with frame size set to 1280 x 720, Aspect Ratio HDTV 720p (16:9), Pixel Aspect Ratio Square.

I’m using both a Photoshop created title (1280 x 720) and an anamorphic 16:9 NTSC clip. Later I will incorporate 720 footage.

The problem is that both the 1280 x 720 title card and the footage are cropping out half-way between the action safe line and the title safe line on the horizontal axis. Vertically, both assets crop fine top to bottom, filling the entire screen.

Why are these two assets not filling the screen horizontally — particularly the 1280 x 720 photoshop card?

Both the card and the clip are doing the same thing.

I’m viewing the canvas in “view as square pixels.” It does the same thing when I turn that option off.

    Thank you.

It sounds like is should have worked. I haven’t used FCP4.5 for quite a while so I don’t remember how it worked.

You could try changing the distort property in the motion tab of the clips.

You can also turn on the wireframe and stretch the footage in the canvas by holding the shift key as you drag a corner.
