framerate nightmare
I have 90% 720p/25 footage, 480/29.97 and 480/23.976 triple whammy, yes I am crying!
Final output will be PAL DVD.
First thing is conform NTSC footage for edit in 25 sequence right?
I have a KONA card but no tapes, as all 29.97 footage was shot on HVX-200 at 30p so is KONA still an option in terms of recapturing at adjusted framerate?
As for the 23.976 footage, should I conform in FCP, AE or Cinema Tools?
And finally I should drop all footage into PAL SD sequence correct?

Get Avid 4.0. You can mix and match ALL of this in a sequence, and it will do it right. FCP does it wrong.
BUT, if you are stuck with FCP here, then use Cinema Tools to conform the 23.98 to 25 (slight speed change, but not bad), but then the 29.97 stuff will have to be converted either with Cinema Tools, or with the Nattress Standards Converter. Try Nattress.com. There is a demo available.
The Kona can capture and convert frame SIZES, but not frame rates.

I just tried Nattress. It gave me a much smoother framerate conversion, but I found that FCP scaled it up better. Perhaps I need to tweak conversion settings?
In terms of the 24 to 25, I would suspect the same scaling results when I hit FCP but as you mentioned there is a slight speed change. How far along would I notice audio drift if any by using Cinema Tools? -

No. FCP wont adjust the speed…it will just add ONE frame to the end of the second, and it will look odd. Cinema Tools will conform the clip to run at the other speed. As for loss of sync, it will still be in sync with the audio it was recorded with, because you are converting that too.
