Frame size salad. Help!

So I have been shooting w/ two cameras. Both are Sony. One is the HDR- XR 500v And the other is a Z5U. My question is this, When I bring footage from the Z5u I have been using the compact flash memory recording unit. This gets logged and transferred. So does the footage from the XR500 as it is a Hard Drive camera. All the footage was shot 1080i @ 30fps. The XR footage automatically goes to Apple pro res at 1920/1080 through a usb plugged into the camera no prob. The Z5u footage gets logged as 720/480 NTSC.This goes from compact flash through the MemoryRecordingUnit via fire wire. The sequence is set @ App pro res 1920/1080. The Z5U clips dont look nearly as good as the XR in the canvas played from the timeline. I tried to highlight the clips from the Z5U and change the properties to Apple pro res during logging and transfer. When I re logged and transfered they still came into the browser as NTSC 720/480. So.. How do I use both in the sequence or do I need to change one into the other. If so, any ideas would be helpful. Could I be missing a setting on the Z5u? Clearly I haven’t been in the “Biz” so take it easy on me. -

Sounds like you shot DV with the Z5U. Because when you log and transfer, FCP brings in the footage with the same attributes that you shot.

Are you shooting in this mode? the camera is a HDV and you need to be shooting in 1080i 30.So the first thing to do is to learn the camera. If you did shoot this in SD (720×480) you will need to downconvert the other footage or upconvert this footage, which way to go would be based on what you need to do with the end produce. The SD will never look as good as the HD footage but if you downconvert the HD to SD it will match better than upconverting the SD to HD.

I figured this was the problem, just couldnt fix it on the camera. I’ll go through the manual again. thanks -
I had been shooting tapeless The ilink was set to down convert HDV to DV from the MRU. I guess i really need to go over the MRU a bit harder. Anyway, thanks.
