Frame rates newbie: 24? 23.98? 30? 29.97? why does it matter?
Apologies if wrong forum! Using FCP7 if that cuts me any slack.
So Mr SD 29.97 (me) has stepped into the Deep end of HD with a new RED Scarlet. (finally putting beloved BWU400 Betacam to rest).
Everyone seems pretty hep on 24/23.98P recording frame rates regardless of final output, in my case mostly commercial/corporate – from which most commercial broadcasters seem to want 1080i files.I get that Progressive is the way to go, but I have gone over the cliff a few times trying to (accidentally) mix my old 29.97 templates (eg Motion) with my new 23.98P footage. Is there any reason I could not shoot 29.97P instead? Am I screwing myself with Stock Footage and other future-use applications by shooting 29.97 vs 23.98
AND:
what advantage/disadvantage of 23.98 vs 24 – 29.97 vs 30, etc.?Obv I can tailor specific frame-rates to external clients (ie network TV shows etc.) ,but this is more for my own in-house direct client purposes.
with thanks
