I just posted this in the FCP forum — I converted some files yesterday with the FRC, and they all worked fine. I tried to convert some clips today, and I got an error message saying there was no video in the selected clip. I even tried converting clips that were converted yesterday with no luck today.

What FPS was used when shooting your footage?

    The cheese stands alone.

not sure this is appropriate but if the clips are in a separate cpature bin and not in the main project bin they will not be seen by the FRC plugin, they need to be at the top level.

That could be the ticket. Damn me and my need to organize!

    Thanks, Dale.

    Hi Dale,
I was able to convert my files yesterday with the Frame Rate Convertor and am
getting an error message today stating:

The selected media file (101:2a%20%20%20WS%20Picks%) cannot be processed by this tool.
Only DVCPRO HD 720p 59.94 fps media files are supported.

But my files were brought in via the easy setup DVCPRO HD 720p 60 48kHz

I don’t understand why it worked yesterday and not today. I’ve re-installed the components
and plugin from the panasonic website and restarted several times. I’ve taken the clips out of the
bins that I organized them into so that they’d be at the highest level and it still doesn’t work.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

When you shot with these files nothing was changed on the camera either?

what do you mean by “shot with these files”?

When shooting, was the setting the same for everything? I’m just trying to ascertain whether anything could have changed in the files themselves rather than with FCP. Previously when you have been converting the files, they worked. Were they shot at the same time, on the same camera? Were they part of a larger batch?

Honestly it sounds like somethign strange in FCP, but also did you digitize these files seperately from the others?

All the clips are part of the same project.
The production team used the Varicam and
    shot at 40fps & 60fps.
We did the test clips yesterday and once they worked
I began digitizing everything in. Perhaps it is
a FCP problem, although we have trashed the
preferences and re-installed the Frame Rate
    Converter Plug-In.

    What a hassle,

Since the problem I had was a fickle folder management problem I’d look for something just as simple/weird to be the cause. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

You can only use the Software FRC once on a file.
You can only use the Software FRC on DVCPROHD compressed content.
The Software FRC will only work on DVCPROHD content listed in the Browser window.
The Software FRC cannot see into subfolders, so if you have moved your content it will not convert.
The software FRC has difficultly and often will not process content that has bars and tone at the head.
