Frame rate converter workaround for 720p50?
I’m wondering if someone has come up with a workaround for Panasonic’s Frame Rate Converter, so I can convert DVCPROHD 720p50 to 25. My goal is to get nice looking slow motion.
I tried to conform using Apple’s Cinema Tools, but got an error message saying there was temporal compression.

I’ve never actually tried this, so I cannot say for sure if it will work, but it’s worth a try. Maybe Barry knows for sure.
In 30/60 you need to set the camera to 30PN, (must be Native), and the frame rate to 60. I assume that’s still true, but the problem is that there are no 25/50 settings in the camera menu. I believe if you save a scene file to the SD card, then open it on a PC, you can edit the scene file and set values that are not normally available in the camera menus, then re-load the scene file into the camera. -
I should clarify. I have DVCPROHD 720p50 Quicktime files I recorded on my HVX200 (European version) to a Firestore FS100 and transfered to my G5 to edit in Final Cut 5. I can edit just fine just fine but cannot convert the frame rate. Panasonic’s Frame Rate Converter does not allow for 50fps, only 59.29.
One solution is to use Compressor to “convert” the footage back to what it already is – DVCPROHD 720p50. This gets rid of the error message I get in Cinema Tools about the temporal compression, but I am wondering if there is a shorter route to viewing my footage at at 50% speed by converting the frame rate to 25 fps.
