    Hey all,

I’m cutting a feature shot on DVCPro HD 720p/24. We’re using a Panasonic AJ-HD1200 deck to capture the footage into FCP.

For some reason, the deck arbitrarily captures at either 59.94 (which we DON’T want) or 23.98 (which we do). SOME clips capture correctly and others do not, and it is completely hit or miss.

When we first discovered that some clips were at 59.94, we used Compressor to try to convert them to 23.98. It worked on some of them, but the 8 clips we worked on last night didn’t come out right in Compressor (hence the recapture attempt).

We’ve had problems using the Panasonic Frame Rate Converter plug-in… not sure why.

Also, I believe that most of the reels were shot at 23.98 and NOT at differing frame rates within a tape, so I don’t think this is the problem. We’ve found that sometimes the deck will capture the first clip off a tape at 59.94 and the second at 23.98.

Any ideas? Is the 1200 model the problem?

    Thanks.

Are you sure it wasn’t shot that way? When you look at the footage, is it smooth…ULTRA smooth like video, or still film like? When you step thru the footage, are frames repeating, or one frame per TC number?

    actually no it is not.
if you capture over bars, over a brake in the TC track or over a speed change from Varicam the content recorded will ignore the capture setting and default to the tape format (60p)

“some clips were at 59.94, we used Compressor to try to convert them to 23.98”
WHOA –really bad idea compressor is very stupid in conversion of this type.

without a version of FCP and which FRC we have no idea how to help.
