First of all, thanks to Creative Cow and it’s members for helping me with my previous question’s answers.

My next question is concerning a project which I’ve filmed in HDV and plan to edit and finalise it on this format. (Yes the rendering is slow but the quality is so soooo satisfying.)

I filmed an interview on a sony HDV camcorder. Then created a FCP6 project at the most appropriate way I could find in the settings. All’s well so far. The set up was HDV 50fps. The clips I noticed were progressive not interlaced and sure enough when I played it back on a monitor it had the effect of interlaced footage played back with progressive fields (hope you’re with me so far). I’m not too concerned as I know I can redigitise the media with a “lower field first” setting.

    I have 2 questions.
Why are there no PAL HDV settings at 25 Fps?
Surely HDV is like DV, and lower field first. So why have any other option?
Anyone out there who can help.
    Yours gratefully
    Toby

Interlaced HD is always upper field first. That’s all codecs, all standards, all sizes — you name it, if it’s HD and it’s interlaced, it’s properly upper filed first.

There are many additional Easy Setups available for download on the Apple support website.
