has anyone heard about using ‘free-run’ on a digi when doing an assemble edit or ‘rec-run’ when blacking or inserting on a tape. Spoke to an engineer and he said this is what SONY recomend. Is it me or has anyone else had a problem from timecode frame drop after doing an assemble edit using rec-run?
    Answers would be helpful.
    Cheers

When blacking a tape or doing and assemble edit you have to be in rec-run and INTERNAL tc generator. If you are in external, the deck will be looking for an incoming TC signal (not through RS-422) to sync to. That is where your error is coming from.

yes that what I thought and was doing (set on rec run and internal tc) but for some reaon I was still getting timecode frame drop. Also found out the digi’s vitc was set up differently to lines 17 + 19, rather than 19 + 21, would this have an effect on my problem? I’ve always just flicked the switch and never gave it another thought.
