Anyone know of any way to generate a quick realistic fracture?

Thinking particles pfrag is GREAT, but its a bit blocky and inorganic, as does the explosion FX. I have Houdini Apprentice HD (worth buying to test it out!), and it has a sweet fracture object, that does it very quick. And I can’t use Houdini b/c: 1. The project is paid 2. All I can do is crack spheres in it.

Does anyone know if you can do this in dynamics? Or am I going to wind up custom fracturing my objects I have to break, and then using expresso to break them apart on an event? I’m attempting to make a cinderblock realistically fall apart from the impact of being dropped. Thoughts?

I think you wanna hit it all over with the knife tool from every angle then try fragmenting it.
For the fall you may want to look at remotions silver bullet.

Yeah I was eyeing up the silver bullet the other day. I think you’re right with the knife tool. It isn’t going to take long, I’m just looking at it for LARGE scale projects.

Did you see what the developers are doing with phytools3d? The 3d fluid generator? Totally impressed, and it’ll totally open up the mograph world to cooler cinema work. But of course thats a tangent.

    Thanks randy!
