    It was recently recommended to do this. I got a dedicated little rewinder for mini DV. Would this be just as good to do on that than with the camcorder? thanks!

    Yes, it will do exactly as much good as doing it in the camcorder (which to me is, “Not much good.”)

    I burned up a couple of camcorders a number of years ago from trying to edit to a vcr. rewinding and fastforwarding was a major cause of it. Remember its always the moving parts on anything that wear out quick. I will take no chances on using the camera motor more than necessary. 30 bucks for a rewinder is a small amount to pay for my paranoia.
