  • formatting for apple tv or podcast

Posted by Luke Pearson on July 8, 2008 at 2:12 pm

One of my clients is requesting for their video to be uploaded for apple tv and to have a video podcast. I’ve never done this before and wondered what format works the best for apple tv and what format works the best for a podcast. The video they want to upload is an hour long. What settings will work the best, etc.? Thanks for any thoughts!

Export QuickTime Movie. Take it to Compressor. Select Apple TV. Don’t try to change it. Everything in Apple TV is exactly preset to Apple TV’s narrow specifications.

    All the best,

Thanks Tom. I have compressor v. 2.3. Is there a option for apple tv in that?

Did you look yourself? Just go into Settings and look under “Apple Devices.” If you don’t see Apple TV listed there, then it doesn’t.

Thanks for your help Walter. I did look and couldn’t find it. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t overlooking it.

    Hey Luke
Try Visual Hub, a great, cheap app that lets you convert to a lot of formats including appletTV (even HD).
I use it a lot to convert to wmv.

    Good luck

If you have a newer version of Quicktime pro, you should be able to export to apple tv right out of FCP using quicktime conversion.
