What are your export and sequence settings? You probably have the wrong pixel aspect ratio.

It should not actually be displayed 4×3, it’s really 4×3 anamorphic or widescreen, thus you should be encoding to the PAL full screen aspect ration of 720×576 (with non/square pixels I think).

I certainly have the wrong pixel settings, but, how do you change it, Ann suggests Export to 788×576 with square pixels and I think it will fix the problem, but, how do you change the Sequence settings, there appears no manual changes possible ?

It was videod in standard 4 x 3 , it was a long time ago before widescreen .

I finally tried using Movie Studio 14.0 Platinum which I hardly rarely use . Put the DVD in the program and it automatically imported as the correct format, then sent it to You Tube and I extracted all the stills I required within 10 minutes, I was truly amazed. There was no distortion in the movie or the stills for printing in Photoshop.

I would still like to know how you would do it in Premiere Pro ?

I then extracted the Movie Studio v14 Platinum mpeg file and imported it into Premiere Pro and it worked perfectly, the right format and no distortion in the final video ? Everything worked including all the effects. Huuuuuuuuuum, why is it so ?

Yes Ann,

You were right, Export to 788×576 with square pixels. But, I used Movie Studio HD Platinum v 14, it just did it automatically and then automatically uploaded the file to You Tube, the the video looks spot on.

At my age I did not even have to think about doing much. It was over 15 years ago, and my wife who is from Holland looked pretty good from an old Sony Hi-8 tape recording.
