Formats for noobs
Re,
A very basic question (I am sorry), something I don’t understand well yet.
My rushes files are in Quicktime H.265 L5.0, 30fps in 4K.
I just exported this (content based) footage in Apple ProRes 422 HQ, which gives a 2,01 GB file whereas I get a 236 MB file with the file exported in Quicktime H265 (100Kb/s*).
I guess theses 3 questions are actually the same formulated different :
Is there actually more information in the Apple ProRes file than in the Quicktime H265 file, and if there aren’t any, is the Quicktime H265 the best export I can get from this footage ?
Isn’t my Quicktime H265 export logically containing all the info present in the original footage, as the wrapper does not change ?
Is there an export codec that actually extracts more information from this container, like ProRes, which would justify the so increased size of the file ?
Finally, would you prefer MP4 or QUICKTIME or ProRes for an instagram reel ?
Thank you for your patience
Jean
* I never know how many Kb/s to choose for any project exports… is there any recommanded Kb/s-wise target for 4K H265 footage ?
