Format to compress an Apple ProRes 422??
Hi, i’ve got some footage from my canon 5DmkII converted in ProRes422 and then edited in Final Cut. Exported the file and edited in Motion for some effects. Now the problem is, what kind of codec should I use to export the file? THe footage has some gradient, in prores 422 looks great (1,3GB for 1.30minutes) but if converted in h264 best quality (30mb), i get a lot of compression noise on gradients… (a blue light on a black glass floor).
Other codecs to keep the footage great (let’s say that i need about 100-200mb file…)

Hi Philippo,
That data rate should yields an awesome picture for HD, however we have to agree that the compression options in FCS are limited.
You can try MPGStreamclip or HandBrake (x264).

yeah, nature of compression and soft gradients.
try something that is used in Print- by adding a small amount of noise to the image and the gradient will hold better. Since you are making the image smaller, the keep the level so that noise will not be visible in the final output.
