You may be able to do this in the Text generator if you have the Fonts installed, but since the Chinese characters are so different this may be difficult.

One way would be to use psd or png graphic files with transparent alpha backgrounds.

You may be better off creating an image containing the text in PhotoShop (or whatever paint program you use) and then bringing those images into Vegas.

Good question (as I may use some Japanese text in project). So I went to a Chinese website, copied some text, and pasted it into a text event. It works like a champ. Keep in mind that I do already have the Japanese and Chinese fonts installed (it is a free download from Microsoft).

I do Chinese text all the time. You can copy/paste or you can enter Chinese into the text boxes directly. Or you can follow the instructions above and create the text in Photo Shop.

Do you know Chinese? Do you have a Chinese overlay program like NJ Star? Doing Chinese is not like doing English and you need a Chinese program that allows you to use Chinese in Windows.

Chinese characters ae double byte chatacters.

    thanks for your help,
I dont know Chinese nor do I have a editor or program. The client is preparing all the text, but word doesnt open it properly, fonts not installed is my guess or do I require a special version? Once I get it sent to me electornically, will vegas recognize it in the text generator as a copy and paste?

No. no you will not be able to enter Chinese text unless you have a Chinese program and proper fonts. And not knowing Chinese would not help you to copy paste anyway.

There is a way around it sort of if you have XP. you can set the program to Chinese as well as MSIE 6. That may help some but since I have the Chinese software and fonts (my Wife and Son are from China) I never set XP. My son did and it seems to work but he also has NJ Star Communicator. That’s only $99. You can do it with that software.

Personally I think you should find a Chinese person who has a Chinese computer that can help you then.
And MS Word is unicode. I don’t use it hardly at all for Chinese. I have a Chinese word processor.

    Alan (and Dave) 你好

I have Windows XP install the Asian fonts during installation (or install them later from the XP CD). Then I use Babelfih (free website)for English/Chinese translation. No other Chinese software is needed.

Copy and paste from Bablefish into the Vegas text editor. It always works and I also have my wife and son (who are from fom Beijing) to verify. 🙂

    Install the fonts.

    Windows-Start-Settings-Control Panel-Regional and Language Options-Languages
Then check the box “Install files for East Asian languages”. Press Okay and have your Windows XP CD ready in a CD drive to read from.

    Yup GG.

That’ll work fine. I got the Chinese software long before XP came out. W2K had some CJK abilities but XP’s great. Originally got NJ Star when I had W98SE.

Been to Beijing also. Check out my web site.
