  • Forcing timecode in Compressor?

Posted by David Gerberding on April 24, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Is it possible to force Compressor to start at a certain timecode, so that when I down convert a small section of HD material to DV Anamorphic, my timecode will match my shot sheets?

ie; I want to cut out 1 minute of HD, from 01:01:30:24 to 01:02:30:24, down convert it to DV Anamorphic and have the new clips timecode start at 01:01:30:24, not 00:00:00:00.

I am using version 2.3 Many thanks.

I think if you mark in and out on your sequence and export it directly to compressor, that might happen.

If you bring the clip into compressor you can set an in and out point and it will keep the TC. If you send a clip from FCP or export it as a ref movie it will take on the TC of the seq and not the clip. You can use FCP to mark the in and out if you make the seq TC match the clips.

I did a test by re-setting the timecode at the start of the FC sequence to the same timecode as the start of the clip… exported directly to Compressor and it did the trick. The new clip now has the same timecode as the old clip. Thanks! I still wish I could simply do that same thing inside of Compressor. In some cases that would save numerous steps in FC.

Also, for some reason, the timecode conversion was not frame accurate coming out of Compressor. Not sure if that had to do with 60fps HD material going to 29.97 DV.
