Force RE_link
The project is a live music performance. People on set created a project after shooting and created a multicam sequence, using audio as sync parameter. I duplicated the project and clips on my HDD. I then realized the colors are off between cameras. I CC’ed each clip with Pro Res 422 then replaced the originals. Now FCPX gives me error for relinking those clips because the new 422 files were rendered without audio. I’m afraid even if I re-render those clips with audio I won’t be able to relink them again. Framerate is same, length is same, audio and Codec are changed tho.
Is there anyway to force re-link, letting FCPX know that I know what I’m doing.

I don’t think so. Why just import and do a few replace edits and be done? Or do you have a ton of clips?

When will a pro editor be given this tool in FCP X. One of my biggest b=pet peeves is re-linking.
You can not ask FCP X to connect to footage that does not perfectly conform to what it “thinks” it should be.
We need human override on this.

There is room in this software for improvement in areas like reconnecting media. There are many instances when the media is there, FCP X sees it, but it does not conform to some stringent standard within the software.
I should never have to EYE match a cut to relink media that is easily accessed.

My only question for the OP is why colour correct outside of FCPX in the first place? I’d normally do the balancing in the angle editor where I can see multiple angles at once for comparison. It’s quick, easy and I can get on with the edit in five minutes.
I’d love to see FCPX have a decent re-linking capability but who knows, maybe we’ll see a replace footage option in 10.0.8… I’ve got my fingers crossed. Meanwhile it’s (mostly) not that hard to work around if you give it some forethought.

I have a curtain in the background that I need to kill completely. I use FCPX only for editing, which is why I decided to pre-render my footages in case my client wants to change the edit when he sees it.
I have other problems in other shots that required color correcting in Resolve; might be doable in FCPX but I’m not familiar with it.The issue is to force FCPX to relink footages that I KNOW they are good enough.

Then you’d fix the clips before you bring them into FCPX and create the multicam, or replace the clips in the angle editor before you start the edit if the project’s already been set up.
The only real issue here is not understanding how the editing package you’ve chosen to use actually works and so have chosen an inappropriate workflow.

That’s wonderful.
So I received the FCPX project with multicam set up for me.
I color corrected the clips. How do I replace the corrected clips with the old ones?
