    Hey dear experts,

    Sorry, it’s me again.

I’m having trouble with some HDR 4K Dolby footage shot with the iPhone 16 : after importing them in DVR, they are quite overexposed.

My output space color is already set to 709A as I’m on my Mac.

    Left photo : original footage.

Right photo : from the timeline viewer (same if I export normally).

    __

Thank you so much if you have any idea of what that might be coming from.

    Thank you again and namaste.

    Jean

You need to be in a color space that supports HDR such as Rec 2020 HLG which I believe is the HDR color space the iPhone shoots, not Rec 709 which is standard dynamic range. I’m not a DaVinci expert, but there are excellent online tutorials that can help. Check out Cullen Kelly’s and Darren Mostyn’s tutorials.

iPhone 16 records in HDR so you have to work in HDR or if you are in a mixed timeline you can use a LUT to fix it. You can download the Filmic LUT Pack from filmicpro.com and use FILMIC_deHLG_V3 lut to fix it easily and for free.

You are the best, many thanks Devrim.

I would just like to share these screens, where I actually found a semi-way of using them with quite ease. It is yes very bright, but it has a “studio” tone.

    1. raw screen from Mac native player

    2. raw imported in DVR (Rec.709A)

    3. trying things which looks “okay” (if you have any input regarding making it a little less flashy)

Which screen or Apple product could I buy (the cheaper) to get a HDR-able screen ?

I can read here : https://support.apple.com/en-us/102205 that MacBook Pro have HDR screens since 2018 (so I could manage something on Backmarket), but for example here :

    https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/111925

I see no trace of HDR capacity whatsoever, so I’m a little lost.

Final commentary, I just desactived HDR on my iPhone :D. For now.

Yes, Macs after 2018 should play Hdr. Also, you can check this list: https://www.displayninja.com/hdr-monitor-list/
