What are people using in the field to offload the SxS cards? Currently, we’re using a laptop…is there something more compact? Reliable?

You’re going to need a computer, regardless of what you are storing the files on. I use a Seagate Free Agent Pro external hard drive, but it does require a computer between the EX-3 and the hard drive.

You HAVE to use XDCAM transfer software to copy the BPAV folder from the card, right?

Because…I’m thinking someone could create a box with a pcmcia slot that has a script running to copy to small internal 2.5 drive and have a basic screen that displays copying/complete could be MUCH cheaper than a laptop, and so much more compact.

Has anyone thought of this idea? Built a prototype? Anyone interested in buying one if it existed?

Since you can’t plug the card directly into the box…can you use the usb-card adapter so you can keep shooting. I’d hate to tie up the cam to transfer media.

Neat little box, but I’d rather trust a laptop running Clip Browser doing a CRC check with my footage. Fewer cords to jury-rig, too 🙂

There are new mini laptops out for about $300 with Express Card slots. I wonder if they can handle this simple file transfer?
