Footage Letterboxed??????
I am trying to author my first blu-ray disc… and I am having a very strange issue.
The footage is DVCPRO HD, shot on an HVX200, edited in FINAL CUT PRO in its DVCPRO native environment 1080, 24 fps. I then exported the footage as self contained Quicktime movies from FCP.
When I bring them into my Encore project, they are playing smaller than the preview frame, letterboxed, with the wrong aspect ration.
I also created a motion menu for the project, using the same footage and now that it is rendered it is playing back full 16×9 frame perfectly. I dont know why the timeline tracks are not working properly.
Any suggestions???

Did you check File>Interpret Footage and verify that Encore is seeing the file as 16:9? I think for full-frame HD it is 1920×1080 with a PAR of 1.0.

The Interpret footage options I get are as follows:
Uste the assets Pixel aspect ration: SD NTSC Widescreen (1.2)
Or I can choose to conform it to one of the following:
Square Pixels (1.0)
SD NTSC
SD NTSC Widescreen
HD AnamorphicI dont get any options that are 16×9

That is the wrong interpretation.
Try setting the PAR to square pixels and let us know what happens.

When I change it to square it changes the timeline aspect ration to 4:3, and the choices are grayed out so I cannot adjust it.
When I look at the timeline in preview it has black borders all the way around the video, like it is not filling the screen, though the aspect ratio appears correct. It looks like what happens when you take a standard def 16×9 image and drop it into a high def 16×9 frame.

Odd. I recommend trying “HD Anamorphic”, just to see what happens. Be alert for image distortions.
If that works, then you have your answer. If not, I would re-check then double-check your export settings from FCP.

As an experiment, export a short clip as MPEG-2 or H264 BluRay, whatever format you are using, and see how Encore interprets that file.
