    Hi,

I’ve got a canon Eos 5D Mk2 and would like to connect it to my Mac so i can capture the HD footage of it to edit. I have connected the camera to my Black Magic Intensity Pro card via a HDMI cable in the back of my MAC. I can’t get anything to show up in my log and capture window. I’m pretty sure it must be something to do with my settings in FCP but can’t seem to get them right. Anyone else who has had these problems on a similar set up and found a way to resolve them, please share your tips.

    Cheers

I don’t have a 5D or cut on FCP, but I’m reasonably sure don’t/can’t “capture”. You have to import. Check out Philp Bloom’s tut https://philipbloom.co.uk/tutorials/canon-5dmkii-tutorials/part-1-importing-and-conversion/

There is a new “Log & Capture” upgrade that will let you use this to import 5d & 7d footage. I’m actually looking for it now. Sorry I don’t have the link. It may be available on Apple’s or Sony’s site.

You can’t just log and capture in the native format. There are free conversion software programs out there. You have to copy the card files onto your hard drive first. Then convert it to ProRes for Final Cut. Compressor will do a small number of clips, but there are problems with compressor crashing if converting a large number of clips.

If you can wait a few more weeks, Canon is releasing a new “Log & Transfer” free plugin sometime this month for the Canon DSLR video. It will log & transfer, while converting to ProRes. I found the link. https://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=3249
