My apologizes if this has been covered and if so, please point me in the right direction.

I have my BMCC, have been filming test shots on the road and now am trying to get the footage from the camera to my macbook pro. I assumed, yes always a mistake, that I could shoot, hook up the thunderbolt cable and life the footage off the SSD drive. I can’t seem to find a way to do this.

I do have a dock. Unfortunately it’s back in Los Angeles.

    Thanks,

    John

While Blackmagic has a wonderful shpiel about why it’s better that the Thunderbolt port cannot offload media, I would call it a design flaw.

You do need some kind of SATA dock or even the Seagate SATA to Thunderbolt adapter for their GoFlex series.

Sorry I can’t bring any better news.

Yes, it works as described on page 24 in the BMCC user manual:

“… Step 2: Take the SSD out of the camera and dock it to your computer via a SSD dock with a fast Thunderbolt, USB 3.0 or eSATA connection. …”

It would be great if the T-Bolt connector allowed the camera to be used as a SSD data dock for transferring 2.5K RAW & 1080p ProRes/DnxHD footage, but that’s not how it works currently.

Alternatively, the BMCC’s T-Bolt connector can be used to capture a live/recorded 1080p video signal using the MediaExpress software included with the camera.

    Thanks Matthew,

I thought that was the case, but i guess I decided I didn’t want to believe it!

I believe GoFlex has a thunderbolt adapter also? I do have a dock, but only FW800.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks Peter,

Page 24 duly noted. I think I just thought if I believed that the thunderbolt port would offload the media, it would happen.

Any suggestions for the Thunderbolt dock?

    Thanks
