Footage comes into FCPX as 720 x 480 shot at 640 x 360
Just started to try out Final Cut Pro X with some footage I shot yesterday. I am using a Canon XH A1S and Focus Enhancement 4PROHD. When I bring the files into FCPX the footage comes in as 720 x 480. The images are then extended vertically. I have tried to open the files in QT Pro and change the size but that is only the display size. How can I get the files in FCPX as 640 x 360?

I’ve never heard of a camera shooting 640×360. Cell phones shoot better video than that. Why would a camera do this? Sounds to me like you shot standard 16:9 video, which is 720×480, and it’s being seen as 4:3 instead of anamorphic.

That’s what it sounds like to me as well. So, the solution would be to check the anamorphic checkbox in the FCP browser for all clips, after trying one out firstfor good measure, of course.

Yes you are right I did shoot it in 16 x 9, so it is anamorphic. When I bring this footage into a FCP 7 timeline I am asked if I want to the footage and timeline to match and it then does give me a 16 x 9 ratio. So how do I get FCPX to do the same thing?

I am using Final Cut Pro X and can not find the anamorphic checkbox in the browser. There is a Spatial Conform property with Fit, Fill and None. The Fill seems to cut off the top and bottom to make the image fit the 16 x 9 ratio. I haven’t found any other way to make this work.
