*Not sure this is in the right forum but it spans bunch of them…

I recently switched employment from a big post house to a (very) small one. The large house had admins control all settings , fonts, installs etc… I look back now and realize how lucky I was. Now I’m on a box that’s been at the mercy of freelancers and temps for the last year and a half.

My problem is that I have a tremendous amount of fonts (well over 2,500). Opening and closing Boris Title 3D now takes at least a minute of beach balling each way. I’ve gone into my font book and disabled nearly 75% of all the fonts but they keep showing up in my titling apps (Motion, Boris, Text). I’ve read in a few forums that Font Book doesn’t actually disable anything…basically every font is continuously active. I’d like to just wipe the system and start fresh but there’s way too much work to do and way too much finished work to archive (I don’t want to wipe out fonts that are in use in an older project).

    1) What is the purpose of “disabling” a font in Font Book if it’s still active?

    2) Should I consider an outside app to help me like FontAgent Pro?

    3) Are there any other tips for cutting down the beach balling time associated with digging through a massive library of fonts?

    4) How should I go about consolidating my font library without compromising currently unfinished projects?

Thanks in advance for all the help.
