font in fcp
am using fcp 4.5 on tiger osx 10.4.1 on a g5. have taken a font from another of our systems running 4.5 on panther. the font file extension is .ttf but when loaded into the text tool it spaces out the text very strangely. not how it does on the system from which it is taken.
anyone have any ideas? deadline looms…

Can you try LiveType for that graphic? You get much better control of kerning, etc. with LiveType vs. the text tool.
See if the font misbehaves in other programs, too.Love the name by the way. LOL

with about 200 captions to do live type was too much work, although it works fine. ended up buying the font from the web and installing it and it works fine. (well as fine as the feeble fcp text tool allows…!)

Use the Boris 3D Text Tool. Tremendously better than the FCP tool and it uses vector graphics so the text looks better. Also lots of option for kerning, shadows, outlines, etc…..
FCP’s text tool is good for quick, temporary placeholders, but as you noted, very limited in ability.
