Font face blocky in FCP 7 DV sequence
Posted by Peter Hall on November 3, 2011 at 5:56 pmMy fonts are breaking up (blocky) even in default size (36) in my DV timeline. There doesn’t appear to be any option to render. Is there a kind soul out there can tell me what I am doing wrong?

November 3, 2011 at 5:59 pmMake sure you text is on an even number for the y position for one.
Second, DV CODEC SUCKS!!!!!When the edit is done.
Change your sequence compressor/codec to 8 bit uncompressed and fully render all.
Much cleaner.Chris Tompkins

November 3, 2011 at 6:10 pmSorry Chris, which is the “Y” position? Is it in the text viewer control pane? I’m using the FCP default text utility. Maybe I should build titles in Motion then import as .mov files?

November 4, 2011 at 8:20 amLooks like I must be on the wrong forum here – I set text motion to even number on the Y position and the font face is still aliasing. I shall try building my titles in Motion, I think I still have a version of LiveType somewhere… looking forward to wasting some time on this one.

November 4, 2011 at 2:17 pmThanks Chris. I agree the text on DV codec looks horrible on FCP. I don’t remember it looking so bad on my previous system, although with that one I used a CRT to monitor.
What do you mean when you suggest use another codec? Maybe to make the titles in a 1080i codec, then make QT movies and import into my DV sequence? Sorry, I have little experience working with DV in FCP, nor do I have a broadcast monitor at my disposal.

November 4, 2011 at 3:38 pmOK, great Chris, thanks for your time. I realise I’m seeing it worse on my MBP screen than it will look to most once I follow your steps. Hope I don’t have to waste more of your kind time. Cheers.
