Folder contents refresh…?
Posted by Chris T on August 31, 2005 at 5:35 amHi, I have a simple question…I have chosen to import a number of different folders into my project bin, one being a ‘sound fx’ folder. this folder located on my system harddrive contains hundreds of files, and today I just added another bunch of files into this folder – on the hard drive. However, when I opened up my fcp project the new files did not appear in the corresponding ‘sound fx’ folder in my bin. Does this mean I have to ‘import files…’ and individually select all those new files?! surely not… is there no ‘folder contents refresh’ function somewhere?

Yes, you’d have to import (or drag) your files into the browser. However, as opposed to folders, individual files will retain their path/ link to the file on your drive so any changes to the files will be updated.

the folder import is just a method for importing a number of collected files in one quick and easy step, its not creating a soft-link to a directory on your hard disk. if you need to add new files to your project then you need to import them.
i gotta say tho’, i sure like the idea your proposing … maybe worth heading over to the feedback page for that one

I’ve been onto Apple re a refresh folders as this is even more desirable when working with shared storage such as XSan.
You might not always be the person who puts the material into a bin! Also they need an import files shortcut, I know there is an assignable button, but I like shortcuts 🙂

would that be the English grunt of disapproval, or the shorthand form of the Cantonese “Ho Ma Fan” (the opposite of “No Worries, mate”) ?

August 31, 2005 at 9:14 amgood idea, send some feedback in. surprising that they don’t already have it…but i’m noticing that there are quite a few similar functions not there..’pro’ indeed…hmf. (and it sounds like the cantonese version is closer to the sort of sentiment i wish to express.)

September 1, 2005 at 8:54 pmWith OSX you can add any shortcut Apple has ommited to add providing the item resides in the main drop down menu. ie Import File is Command I, the is a menu item for Import Folder but no KB Shortcut, so I’ve set that item to Shift Command I ao that I can import the folder from the keyboard.
