  • Fold an object round a cube

    Hi there,
I want to Fold an object at 90 degrees angles all the way round a cube with a texture.

I have tried to do this using 4 cubes staked against each other using the axis to do the folding, placing them in a null and textured them.

The texture does not alien properly and looks junk.

I would like to use a plane to fold but have no idea how to animate it folding.

I have also tried boning but that did not work either.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Martyn.

Well, not really sure if I am understanding right what you like to achieve…?

    Anyway…
If you like, check out Adam Trachtenberg’s famous Cube Folding Tutorial:

And for completion, his excellent Sphere Folding Tutorial:

    Hi Nolan,
Thanks for replying to my ramblings.

I followed Adams tutorial a few days ago, unfortunately I don’t have Mocca. I did it just using bones but I could not get it to fold correctly.

I have also tried to animate using the method described in the Sphere Folding Tutorial.

The animation worked fine but the textured surface distorts.

any Ideas how to keep the texture from distorting???

    Many thanks,

    Martyn.

You can keep the texture from distorting by using UVW mapping, or by using one of the parametric mapping modes and adding a “stick texture” tag.
