hello all, I’m working at an advertising company and I’m afraid I might have promised a little too much, what effect, or plug in would I need to make a coin hitting a pile of coins (could be a pic) have a bunch of coins fly off and into another pile. I thought Particular could do it but mapping an image onto a coin proved a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Basic Shatter kind of does what I need it too, but I can’t get the custom shatter map to shrink down, kind of stumped on what to do here, any suggestions?
    thanks

No real idea what you want to do since AE cannot create 3d extruded coins. I’ve never used particular but there’s a Trapcode forum here on the cow, isn’t there? Maybe someone there can help.

Shatter can easily extrude circles into 3d space on a 2d layer (and place a nice ridged edge on them) but you can’t stack them up.
Card Dance can do wonderful things into 3D (on a 2D layer) but can’t extrude the coins and Card Dance’s ballistics are stylized, they’re not realistic.

I’d suggest you start trying to find a highly skilled 3D animator in your market area and expect to pay her handsomely for rescuing your project against a deadline she doesn’t own.

If you have Illustrator you could make an extruded 3D coin there and possibly several layers of the same thing to make a composition to animate in AE. Your coins though in this manner would not animate like 3D objects. You would just be making a stack of images of coins in various positions and animating the images from the stack.

well, what I ended up doing, and looks pretty interesting I might add, was create a custom shatter map and had it blow out in a certain direction, which fakes 3D coins really well, too bad the pieces in shatter can’t land on something. Thanks for the help though 🙂
