    Hi There:
For mainly documentary but not only, trying to deside which fluid heads and tripod to get for the DVX100a.
Coming from film I really appreciated a heavier head with more resistance that enabled me to do smoother movements with more control. However those were heavier cameras and it was a while ago. Never worked with the lighter cameras like the 100A
Any thoughts about the bogen 501,503, 516. How is the Vinten Vision 3? is it worth the extra$$!!
    Any other ones you recommend?
Also my thinking is: spend more on the head and get a cheaper reasonable tripod, with quick release for the legs and camera.
Any thoughts and specific recomendations will be highly appreciated. I’d really like to learn from your hard earned experince.
    Thank you very much

I find the Manfrotto/Bogens to be a great deal for the money- Vinten is ok too though IMHO not always worth the extra $.

I have a manfroto and it is a little workhorse. Good in all kinds of weather, ball head and smooth pan and tilt, Model 501. If I was looking for a new one I would take a serious look at a Cartoni.

    Hi David,
Thank you for your response. It sounds like you really like your bogen/Manfroto and that it is very dependable. So what is it that you prefer in the cartoni?
Thanks for the input I really appreciate it.

I have always liked cartoni. They just have never made a real affordable tripod for DV until tis year. The Manfrotto I bought was part of a kit that included head, legs, plate and soft case. Very reasonable and high quality at a good price. The Cartoni was not available yet so I went with it.
