flowing long multipage pdf file over multiple InDesign pages when placing.
I have a very long pdf file to place into InDesign so that other elements can be overlaid upon it. The InDesign file and the pdf file use the same page size (A4).
I can place the multipage pdf, but I get all the individual pages as single graphics frames on the one page. Not a problem with a small 5 page document as you can move 5 frames to 5 pages manually but my pdf has 500 odd pages.
When you flow in long text documents InDesign will add the pages and auto flow the text. I want it to do the same for the pdf. i.e so that each page of the pdf automatically appears as a new InDesign page. Can I do that – I’d be surprised if I can’t? If so how?

* Ctrl D to place
* Check Show import options, uncheck preview (to speed things up if you like)
* Choose all pages
* Change your view to abotu 10%
* Click once on each page of Indesign to place each page of the .pdf
PS: If you hold down alt all pages will place (but you will have multiple images on the same page, so you most likely will do better not trying this). This is the best advice I can offer, as holding down Ctrl does nto waork as with text. Hope this helps. -
There are a few plugins and scripts available, but I’ve never used one myself. It is not possible to AutoFlow natively in InDesign…fingers crossed for CS3!

I generally set up one page, import (with either media or bleed chosen as my import size, so the PDF is the same size and my page), click on the “zero point”, then do a quick page add (without moving my mouse): Command-Shift-P (or Ctrl-Shift-P on Windows), and click, repeat. That way, my cursor stays sitting on the zero point and I can quickly add pages and not have to reset the zero point of my placed PDF.

I think the plugin I mentioned (and maybe the script) was so that you could place multipage PDFs in CS or 2…which you can already do in CS2. I thought it was so you could have an autoflow-like feature when placing multipage PDFs in CS2. I should have read further….oops!
