Flourescent light flicker
I am an expressions newbie. Trying to do something which seems like it should be simple but it just isn’t working correctly. I’m trying to create a “busted flourescent light” effect where the light flickers, foreshadowing the impending doom facing our heroine. I’m trying to use expression to wiggle the output whites and input blacks. But it’s coming out like a 1-0 effect. The screen is either black or 100%. Any thoughts?

Try wiggling the Opacity. If many layers are involved, either precompose or just add an Adjustment layer and Distort>Trasform>Opacity.

Thanks. Wiggling the opacity worked OK. I think it’s just not quite as organic as I’d hoped. Of course, wiggling the levels may not have looked any better. Best to have just flickered the light in the first place, I guess.

I’m guessing when you wiggled the levels (on a levels Individual controls no doubt) you may have used something like this:
wiggle(2,255);
but Levels and most color-related properties are expressed in percentages internally. And that percentage means a number from 0.0 to 1.0 so a wiggle(2,1) would wiggle the value between 255 and 0 two times per second.
if you set it up with a really high integer (25500%): it will look like a black and white flicker.
