    I followed your link to the software codecs installer and downloaded it, but the unzipped folder had an installer file that, when I double-clicked it, gave me an error stating, “there is no default application specified to open the document “Media 100 Codecs Install.”

    There is also another folder called “__MACOSX” but it appears to be empty. What did I do wrong?

    Try re-downloading and unstuffing it with the newest stuffit-version. This should work and give you an installer application.
