Flip Video in Final Cut Pro
Hello people.
I have a headache in that I have been given a 90min flip AVI video file that I need to edit in FCP. FCP doesn’t recognize the file and I have tried converting the footage through compressor to DV Pal and DV NTSC but it looks terrible! Which setting should I use or should I buy one of the Flip to FCP software converters?
The other confusion is I have some HDV footage to add to it along with library footage! The final output is mainly for the web… but I can second guess the client may use it on exhibition stands on plasmas.
Help please!

download a free utility called mpeg stream clip off the web and use that to convert the avi to dv

Use compressor to convert everything to ProRes 422 ProRes LT. Don’t convert to DV.
Is the Flip Video HD or SD ?

Thanks for the advice, the size of the video is 720×400 which I thought was odd….

I’ve used compressor to output to the default ProRes 422 setting and the file looks and plays great in the FCP viewer but when I place it in a sequence it has asks to match the settings. It than has the red unrendered line in the timeline and the video goes lighter when played through the Canvas! The ProRes 422 file is: ProRes 422(HQ)(source file size)720×400 29.9 fps. Do I need to change the default setting in compressor to a size FCP recognizes like 720×480, or the sequence in FCP. Sorry, but I’m nearly there, just need help on the final hurdle. Im on FCP 6.0.6.

If I’m not wrong, the Mino shoot 30fps.
Unless you have changed the time-base in Compressor, you will need to Conform your footage to 29’97 with CinemaTools.

Thanks Rafael, I get the message. I’ll use the SEARCH tool rather than the Rafael tool.
