Flip options on edit page
Posted by Margus Voll on June 25, 2014 at 6:37 amI wonder if it would be possible to have flip and flop option on edit page so
that if you are looking at reference you can change the flip option the same time
as you look the offline clip in comparison to raw footage? Now you have to go to the colour page to do that and after that come back to edit page.
For feature or documentary work it is time consuming some time.
Does my idea seem reasonable ?

June 25, 2014 at 7:36 pmI third this!!!
I am actually working on a timeline where this would have been very helpful. There is a lot of animated geometry that I have to manually invert it which is a real pain. I was hoping in Dav. 11 it would be different, but it appears that it is still not on the edit page.

June 26, 2014 at 8:37 amAlso the flips and flops need to have offline footage to be seen all the time so the comparison would not
go away.I see it also on commercials when steady cam is used some times as the images are upside down.
For feature and documentary work this is really annoying to jump back and forth.

June 26, 2014 at 4:39 pmIf the desire is to do the flip/flop on the Edit page, could you not invert the appropriate axis’ scale in the Edit page? I haven’t done that, but it seems like a feasible option… though it may not be.

June 26, 2014 at 5:00 pmThe real issue with “Flip” and “Flop” is that at least in FCP it is a “Filter”, which is not translated in Resolve. A decision needs to be made whether to execute it in grade or leave it alone and let FCP re-do it on the return trip. If you do decide to flip or flop the clip in Resolve, then the filter will still be present in the return XML, and will still have to be undone in the (Resolve) FCP timeline once back in the NLE.

June 27, 2014 at 12:42 pmClients usually ask to see material in “normal” position regardless the original material.
If you have a lot of this kind of material then it is painful.

I mentioned this to Peter at a BMD Event in Hollywood a few months back. I think it’s an important feature and jumping back and forth to the color page to do a flip or a flip is cumbersome.Further, if the inspector is open it needs to stay open when jumping from clip to clip. Currently it closes each time, which is very inefficient when conforming and matching the offline.
