I’m working on a project in Motion and importing it into FCP. I not only had flickering text, but the video (lots of stills from istock.com) is stuttering. I’ve never had this happen before, and I work with stills and animated text quite often. When the video is in Motion, it looks absolutely gorgeous; it’s only after being imported to FCP that it looks so horrible.

I looked at every thread on flickering text, and tried about 75% of the suggestions before getting frustrated.

However, I was able to “fix” it by exporting the Motion project to a Quicktime movie.

I don’t really know why this happened, and I’ll be interested to see if this happens in the future. I assumed that my settings didn’t match (I had to make a bunch of weird files lately with strange aspect ratios and the like), but when I set them all back to normal, the problem was still there. Unless I skipped something, though I don’t know what …

And if it’s a FCP issue, why would it work with an imported .mov file?

I hate it when FCP does something unexpected and new.

What worked even better was separating the text and the images into two separate projects (saved the project as “text only” and deleted video, then opened previous project and this time deleted the text and saved it as “video only”).

After importing separately into FCP, the motion looks perfect.
