Flattened 16×9 to widescreen QT file
I have footage that was shot on 35mm anamorphic. It’s been captured and has been already been flattened so that if I output a QT file, I get the black bars on top and bottom. Is there a way to create a QT file so that the black bars do not appear?

QT file for what, the web? Crop it.

You have not provided enough information. We don’t know the aspect ratio of your original film or of the telecine, and we don’t know any details of settings you’ve selected for your timeline. Its pretty tough to guess these things.

It sound like you are dealing with footage which has already been letterboxed.
If you want the image to appear full screen on a 4×3 monitor you can do a center cut from the letterboxed footage.
If you want it to be full screen on a 16×9 monitor you need the original anamorphic footage.

Apologies to all. I forget that what is clear in my mind has little bearing on anything.
Indeed, I have footage that has already been letterboxed and I want to make a QT file for the web. I’m not concerned with compression, just if I can do something like a crop to get rid of the black bars. The footage is currently in 720×480.
