flashing color video effects.
Hey Guys and Girls,
hows it going? so i saw this music video the other day on YouTube. in the video there are like flashes of colored lights with some particles and movement inside. at first i thought it where lens flares, but when i tried with optical flares and knoll light factory, i couldn’t replicate the effect from the video. i don’t know what this effect is called so cant look for tutorials. so far just describing the effect hasn’t gotten me far. i’ll post a link to the video so you can see exactly what i mean. hopefully someone can help me or point me in the direction of some tutorials that cover that effect. thanx in advanced for your help.

This appears to be the most used effect of 2012. Film Artifacts, or Film Damage. You can purchase collections of clips to overlay on your video from Artbeats and a number of other sources, or you can create your own from particle systems and other methods.

is this really also a film damage type effect? it does look like a modern version now that u mention it. thanx for the advice. i think i’ll try the particle method.

You can mimic these effects with some solid layers.
Make solid layers of the desired color and mask a section out of it. Give it a high feather value. Now Animate the opacity of layers and check which blending mode suits you best. Generally Add,screen and overlay will give you good results.
4-color Gradient Effect(Generate>Ramp, Generate>4-Color Gradient) to create the Colored lights.
