As I reported earlier, On2 Flix Pro 8 does not allow one to install their software on more than one computer. I did find out that you can request a transfer. You download and fill out a PDF form with “penalty of perjury” that you’ve destroyed all files etc. on the old computer, etc. etc.(https://flix.on2.com/cart/lot.pdf)Then you either fax that in (518-881-1514), or scan it and send it as attached file to fl*********@*n2.com.

In the mean time, I’ve discovered that Moyea’s Flash Video MX standard makes a crisper, better Flash encode than On2, when you select the H 264 codec. The standard version costs $60. Unless you need an alpha channel, there is no reason that I can see to buy the Pro version which costs $90. (Prices went up when they went from version 4 to version 5.)

Now it turns out Moyea also has a one-computer policy (…) However, from the tone of their customer support reply, they are much more relaxed and helpful.

Further notes on the difference between Moyea Pro vs. Std. According to customer support and the web site, Standard does not include Flash 8 codec with or without Alpha. However, I discovered that since I had downloaded the trail Pro version first, and installed the free On2 codec for Flash 8 per their instructions (https://www.flvsoft.com/video_to_flv/flash8tips.html)this codec also appears in Flash MX Standard. In any case, I much prefer the look of H 264.

Bottom line: I’m buying the Moyea Standard version for my new computer, even though I could go through the “Letter of Transfer” hoops as described in the first paragraph and Flash for no additional cost. I only wish I’d discovered Moyea when i started down this path — perhaps they weren’t around then.

    Rick and Michael,
Those two companies are a joke..in the age where a free
flowing customer support is key…they have adopted the opposite.
I hear unending complaints about them….dont know why some companies still chooses to be so rigid on their customers.

    Steve,

I so agree. However, is there a good alternative if you want to convert your video to Flash?

Steve, I remember you suggested “Super” — but I cannot get it to produce a SWF player, and the image is less sharp.

    Yes i recommended “SUPER”.
You can however tweak the settings and adjust the bit rate to
achieve excellent results (trust me)…take the time and run several tweaks.

Have you tried Sorenson Squeeze? It uses either the On2 VP6 pro codec or the Sorenson Spark pro codec, which seems to render decent enough footage for me.

I’m not a huge fan of Super; while it seems it can convert one format to nearly any other format in the universe, 90% of all attempts either result in errors, missing video / audio, or other miscellaneous botched jobs.

I understand your views perfectly Rich,
But for me personally, i have not really experienced any major
errors or gaps using super….I however has always experience conflicts and errors using the major standalone compressors..especially
    from mainconcept etc.
Because of past expereinces i have never really considered buying sorenson squeeze.

Steve, I keep posting that I see no way to make a SWF player using Super. Am I missing something?

For that matter, how about posting your Super settings, what works for you to convert you AVI files to flash?
