Is there a way to export flash files to AE without using quicktime? I heard that AE 5.5 supports .swf files but that didn’t seem to work for me. So far the only way i’ve been able to maintain the vector files is by exporting the flash files as a .png sequence. Is there an easier way? I have AE 6.5 does 7 support .swf’s?
    thanks in advance!!!

AFAIK a swf file cannot be edited by it’s individual parts-that can only be done in the original fla file in Flash. Even if you take a swf into Flash you cannot edit it’s original components-it’s rendered so to speak. Just like an avi rendered in AE can’t be opened up in AE and be editable-it’s cooked like a cake-you can’t change the amount of sugar in it only in the original AE project file. AE 7 doesn’t import swf-at least it didn’t work for me and the help file only talks about exporting swfs not importing.

I do not need to edit the swf I am adding backgrounds and other elements in after effects. I want to keep the .swf file to avoid raterizing and artifacting.
    Thanks

The only way I was able to ever maintian vector information from a flash file in AE was via the Useful Things plug-in. It was a for a project that I was working on a few years ago so I may not be remembering everything, but you could import an .swf into Useful Things and then use the Position, Scale, Rotation, etc. parameters within the plug-in (not AEs native controls) to make adjustments to the .swf file. This was the only way I found to preserve the vector file and not have it rasterize. Someone may be able to answer definitively, but I recall hearing that Useful Things is no longer being sold. Not sure though…..
